Leading in Worship

What can you do to help your child learn to worship and participate in the corporate worship of your church?

• Accept the God-given responsibility to nurture your child’s spiritual development. (Read Deuteronomy 6: 4-9.)

• Consider it an honor and privilege to lead your child to worship.

• Maintain regular attendance.

• Pay attention to children while in worship. Greet the children, call them by name, and encourage them to participate.

• Remember the developmental characteristics of your child. Do not expect her to sit still for long periods of time. Encourage her to stand, sit, or kneel as you do.

• Relax and enjoy the worship time as a family. Do not stress over every move or noise your child makes. The noise is probably more distracting to you than others sitting around you.

• Provide your child with her own Bible. Help her locate and follow along as the Bible is read.

• Encourage your child to take notes (or draw pictures) about the

sermon or something she observes in the worship service.

• Discuss with your child before the worship service what will take place. Follow up with questions regarding the music, sermon, testimonies, or other things which occurred during the worship time.

• Encourage your child to participate by singing, reading the Bible, and praying.

• Sit where your child can see and hear.

• Pray for and with your child before the worship service.
