Preparing for Worship

One of the best ways to ensure your family has a positive worship experience is proper preparation. Utilize these tips in preparing for worship:

• Decide on Saturday what clothes to wear. Make sure shoes, hair bows, and other clothing items are together.

• Get plenty of rest on Saturday night.

• Ensure that everyone eats a good breakfast.

• Enjoy travel time to church. Discuss what will take place during worship.

• Provide each family member with his own Bible to use during worship.

• Get up early on Sunday morning to avoid feeling rushed.

• Maintain a positive attitude.

• View Sunday worship as a special family event.

• Provide opportunities for your child to get to know the church staff members and their responsibilities.

firsthand experiences. Provide your child time to use his senses in learning. By seeing, hearing, smelling, and touching, your child feels accepted in the worship of the church.

Curiosity. Allow your child to ask questions and provide the freedom to explore things he does not understand. Answer his questions honestly and on his level of understanding.

Repetition. Repetition builds security for your child. When he repeats actions, songs, words, and routines in worship, he learns to feel secure in God’s presence and protection.

Imitation. Allow your child to act like those around him. By watching the actions of others in the worship service, your child learns how to behave in worship.

Relationships. Relationships provide children opportunities to feel accepted and loved by others in the church.
